Trend Conviction Divergence
Most trend tools tell you which way price is pointing. Trend Conviction Divergence [ZynAlgo] tells you something more useful: how much conviction is actually behind that move - so you can lean into trends that are backed by real force and step aside from the ones quietly running out of fuel.
Key benefits
- Conviction, not just direction: four independent proxies - Price Efficiency, Participation, Follow Through and Breakout Acceptance - blend into one 0-100 Conviction Score in its own pane, kept separate from trend direction.
- Spots fading trends early: when price keeps grinding one way but the score slides toward the weak line, conviction is leaving the move before price turns - a divergence you can act on.
- A clean filter over your own setups: a colour-coded score (red / yellow / green) plus a PRICE / CONVICTION / STATUS dashboard give a fast top-down read on any symbol and timeframe.
How it works
A Kaufman-style efficiency ratio, a volume participation check, a swing follow-through measure and a breakout-acceptance rate are each normalized and blended (with adjustable weights) into a single 0-100 score. It plots as columns - red below the Weak level, green above the Strong level - with a dashboard summarizing direction, score and status. The tool is analytical context, not an entry trigger. What Trend Conviction Divergence measures - and what it ignores
Trend Conviction Divergence focuses on one question most trend tools skip: how much conviction is actually behind the current move - not simply which way price is pointing. It reads four independent proxies of trend health and blends them into a single 0-100 Conviction Score shown in its own pane:
- Price Efficiency - how cleanly price is travelling versus how much it is chopping.
- Participation - whether volume is backing the move or quietly draining away.
- Follow Through - whether each new leg is as strong as the ones before it.
- Breakout Acceptance - whether recent breakouts actually held or got rejected.
What it deliberately ignores is just as important: it keeps trend direction separate from conviction. A market can keep grinding higher while the conviction behind it fades - and this tool is built to make that gap visible instead of hiding it, on any symbol and timeframe on TradingView.
What builds the Conviction Score
The Conviction Score is a single number that answers "is this trend backed by real force, or is it running on empty?" It sits in a separate pane so it never clutters price, and it moves independently of direction - which is what lets you spot a trend losing its backing before price rolls over.

- When conviction is high, the move is efficient, well-attended and following through.
- When conviction fades, price may still be drifting in the same direction, but the force behind it is thinning out.
- The common mistake it guards against: trusting a trend just because price keeps printing new highs or lows, while the move is quietly running out of fuel.
How the Conviction Score is defined

The score is a weighted blend of four components, each normalized and each contributing to the final 0-100 reading (weights are adjustable in settings):
- Price Efficiency - a Kaufman-style efficiency ratio: the net directional move over a lookback divided by the sum of every bar-to-bar move in the same window. Near 1 means a clean, directional push; near 0 means choppy, noisy travel.
- Participation - the recent short-term volume average compared against an older baseline average. Volume falling away during a continuing move flags weakening participation. (Volume is a proxy and can be unreliable on some symbols.)
- Follow Through - the size of the most recently completed swing leg versus the average size of the prior legs in memory. Shrinking legs signal weakening follow-through.
- Breakout Acceptance - the share of recent range breakouts that were still accepted a few bars later, rather than getting rejected back inside.
How to read the Conviction Score
This is an analytical gauge, not an entry trigger - it tells you how much to trust a trend, not when to click buy or sell.
- The score plots as columns: below the Weak threshold (default 40) it turns red (weak trend); between the thresholds it is yellow (moderate); above the Strong threshold (default 70) it turns green (strong trend). Two dashed guide lines mark the 40 and 70 levels.
- The dashboard in the top-right corner summarizes the current state at a glance: PRICE (BULLISH or BEARISH), CONVICTION (the score as a percentage), and STATUS (WEAK TREND / MODERATE / STRONG TREND).
- The key read is the divergence: when the dashboard still says BULLISH (or BEARISH) but the score is sliding toward or under the weak line, conviction is draining out of the trend even though price has not turned yet.

The opposite read is just as useful. When price is trending and the score holds up in the green zone above the Strong level, conviction is confirming the move rather than fading - the trend is backed by efficient travel, participation and follow-through.

Traders typically use it as a confirmation and filter layer on top of their own setups - leaning into trades when conviction is high and rising, and being more cautious or standing aside when conviction is weak or diverging from price.
Settings at a glance
Every input is grouped so it is easy to tune to your market and timeframe: Trend Direction sets the reference length for BULLISH/BEARISH; the four component groups (Price Efficiency, Participation, Follow Through, Breakout Acceptance) control each proxy's lookbacks; Conviction Score Weights rebalances how much each proxy contributes; and Display sets the Weak and Strong thresholds that drive the coloring and status. The defaults are ready to use out of the box.

Who gets the most out of this conviction tool
- Trend traders who want to avoid tired, low-conviction trends that look strong on price alone.
- Breakout traders checking whether a move actually has backing before committing.
- Anyone who wants a top-down context or filter to run above their existing entry method.
- Multi-timeframe traders reading conviction on a higher timeframe while executing on a lower one.
A trend is only as good as the conviction behind it - this tool keeps that conviction in plain sight so you can act on strength and step back from moves that are quietly running out.
