Why My Fade at the Daily Open Gets Stopped Out (And How to Wait for the Flip)

by ZynAlgoAugust 15, 20266 min read

The problem with fading the open on first contact

You see price approach the daily open and you short it. It taps the level, you get filled, and then it rips straight through your stop. Or you buy the open and watch price slice below it for twenty minutes before finally turning.

The open is real. Intraday traders watch it, defend it, and hunt it all session. But the first touch is not the same as a rejection. Most opens get tested multiple times before they hold, and fading it the moment it arrives leaves you in front of a probe that has not failed yet.

Why the flip is the confirmation

A fade becomes a setup when three things happen in order: price pushes beyond the open, gets rejected, and closes back through it. That sequence proves the level held under pressure.

Open Price Flip Pulse is a MetaTrader 5 indicator that waits for that exact chain. It does not react to a touch. It waits for a push past the daily or session open by at least 0.20 ATR, a rejection wick on the far side, a close back across the open band, and a confirmation bar that closes beyond the reclaim extreme or a fast EMA. Only when all four align does a BUY or SELL print, with stop and targets already drawn.

The open line and its ATR-width envelope are visible on the chart. A bias ribbon shows which side price is being accepted on. When the rejection and reclaim meet the threshold, an armed marker appears. The signal fires when the next bar confirms.

What happens in a live session

You attach the indicator to a 5-minute chart of gold during the New York session.

Price opens at 2440, drifts down to 2438, then pushes below the open band to 2436.80. That push is at least 0.20 ATR below the open, and the candle leaves a lower rejection wick. The next bar closes back above the open band at 2440.50. That is the reclaim.

The following bar closes above the reclaim high. Open Price Flip Pulse prints a BUY arrow at that close, with entry at 2441.20, a stop below the rejection wick plus 0.15 ATR at 2436.50, TP1 at 1R (2446.00), and TP2 at the upper side of the open envelope or 1.8R. An alert fires naming the symbol, timeframe, and trigger.

You did not fade the open at 2440. You waited for the market to push below it, fail, and reclaim it. The setup existed because the rejection was genuine and the reclaim was confirmed.

How the context filters prevent bad setups

The indicator applies five filters before a signal can print:

  • ATR floor, below a minimum ATR the market is too quiet for the open to matter
  • Spread cap, widened spreads during news or illiquid hours invalidate the setup
  • Reclaim body size, the reclaim bar must have a body at least 35% of its range, not a doji
  • Distance from open, the push must be at least 0.20 ATR beyond the open band to count as a probe
  • Confirmation window, the confirming bar must close within 4 bars of the reclaim or the setup expires

These prevent signals during chop, during spread spikes, and when the reclaim is weak or stale.

What it does not do

Open Price Flip Pulse does not predict whether the open will hold. It reacts only after the rejection and reclaim have already occurred.

It does not work well on one-way trend days when the open is broken and never reclaimed. If the session opens and immediately trends away from the level for hours, no setup will form.

It does not adapt to every instrument. It is built for intraday trading on gold, forex majors, and indices where the open is actively defended. On instruments where the open is ignored, the setup loses meaning.

It is a deterministic signal assistant. It measures thresholds and prints arrows when conditions align. It does not guarantee that the rejection will hold or that the target will be reached.

Who it fits

You will get the most from this tool if:

  • You already trade around the daily or session open on gold, EUR/USD, GBP/USD, or indices
  • You recognise the problem of fading too early and want to wait for the push-fail-reclaim sequence
  • You work on M1 through M15 timeframes during liquid hours
  • You are comfortable managing a trade once the setup prints, rather than expecting the tool to manage it for you

It fits you less well if you trade end-of-day only, or if you prefer to fade the first touch and accept the early stops as part of the method.

Pairing with other tools

Open Price Flip Pulse pairs naturally with Wick Absorption Reversal Pulse MT5 when you want a second layer of wick-based confirmation at the same level. It also complements VP MACD Intraday Pulse MT5 when you want volume-price divergence as a secondary filter for the reclaim bar.

Both are independent signals. You do not combine them to improve results. You use one to time the flip and the other to confirm the context.

Installing and running it

Copy the .ex5 file into the MQL5/Indicators folder inside your MetaTrader 5 data folder. Refresh the Navigator panel, then drag Open Price Flip Pulse onto the chart.

Every threshold is editable in the Inputs tab: the ATR period, the open-band width, the rejection distance, the reclaim-body minimum, the confirmation window, the spread cap, and the ATR floor. The defaults are set for M5 gold and forex majors. If you trade M1 or M15, or if you trade indices, test the ATR settings on your instrument first.

Alerts are built in for setup armed, BUY confirmed, SELL confirmed, invalidation, and opposite signal. Each names the symbol, timeframe, and trigger reason.
