Why Your Open-Reject Trades Keep Failing Without Reclaim Confirmation

by ZynAlgoAugust 16, 20266 min read

Why fading the first open touch is a coin flip

You see price hit the daily open, you sell the touch, and two candles later you are stopped out as the whole session trends the other way.

The problem is not the open as a level. Intraday traders hunt it, algo clusters form around it, and it often does hold. The problem is that touching it once is not the same as defending it. Most clean reversals at the open require price to push beyond it, get turned away, then close back across it in the opposite direction before the real move begins.

Skipping that sequence is the reason so many open fades get run over.

What Open Price Flip Pulse does

Open Price Flip Pulse is an open-reclaim reversal indicator for MetaTrader 4. It watches one recurring intraday setup: price pushes past the daily or session open, gets rejected, and flips back through it. It will not print a signal on a first touch, or a second. It waits for a confirmed reclaim before it marks the chart.

Every closed candle is measured against:

  • Open band, the active daily or session open with an ATR-width envelope around it
  • Rejection, price trading beyond the band by at least 0.20 ATR and leaving a rejection wick
  • Reclaim, a close back on the other side of the open band
  • Confirmation, the next bar closing beyond the reclaim bar's extreme or a fast EMA
  • Context filters, ATR floor, spread cap, reclaim-body size and distance from the open

Only when the rejection, the reclaim and the confirmation agree does a BUY or SELL arrow arrive, with stop placement and targets already measured.

How the rejection and reclaim are defined

A BUY prints when:

  • Price trades below the open band by at least 0.20 ATR and leaves a lower rejection wick.
  • Price closes back above the open band.
  • The next bar closes above the reclaim high or the fast EMA within the four-bar window.
  • ATR, spread, body and distance filters allow the bar.

A SELL is the mirror image: a push above the open band with an upper rejection wick, a close back below, then a confirming close below the reclaim low or fast EMA, with the same filters.

What appears on the chart:

  • The daily or session open line, the ATR-width envelope, the bias ribbon and armed-sweep markers.
  • A BUY or SELL arrow with entry at the confirmation close, a stop beyond the sweep wick plus 0.15 ATR, TP1 at 1R and TP2 at the opposite side of the open envelope or 1.8R, with an optional EMA and ATR trail.
  • Alerts for setup armed, BUY confirmed, SELL confirmed, invalidation and opposite signal, each naming the symbol, timeframe and trigger reason.

The indicator does not predict. It reacts to structure as it closes.

Why the open is the level that matters

Most reversal tools react to any swing high or low. Open Price Flip Pulse anchors to the open, because that is the level intraday traders defend and hunt, so a rejection and reclaim there carries more meaning than a random wick.

The open line and its ATR envelope show the level and the tolerance band around it. The bias ribbon turns green or red depending on which side price is being accepted on. The mistake this setup avoids is fading the open the moment it is touched. The setup requires a genuine push beyond it that then fails.

How to use it in a session

You attach Open Price Flip Pulse to a chart running M1 to M15 on gold, forex majors or indices. You wait for the armed marker to appear after the rejection and reclaim. You do nothing until the confirmation close prints the BUY or SELL arrow.

The stop and targets are already drawn. You decide which exit to use: TP1 at 1R, TP2 at the opposite envelope edge or 1.8R, or the EMA and ATR trail. If an invalidation alert sounds before confirmation, the setup is cancelled. If price breaks the open cleanly and never reclaims it, the tool stays silent.

This is not a front-running tool. It trades the flip after it happens, not before.

What it does not do

Open Price Flip Pulse does not work on one-way trend days, when the open is broken and never reclaimed. It does not attempt to predict which direction the flip will take; it waits for the flip to complete before signalling.

Choppy news bars, widened spreads and very low volatility can produce failed fades, which is why the ATR, spread and body filters exist. The tool will skip bars that do not meet the minimum thresholds, even if the rejection and reclaim look clean to the eye.

It is a deterministic signal assistant. It measures structure that has already closed. It does not promise a win rate, and it does not adapt its logic to different market regimes beyond what the ATR and spread filters allow.

Who this is for

Open Price Flip Pulse fits you if:

  • You trade intraday around the daily or session open on gold, forex majors or indices.
  • You would rather trade a confirmed reject-and-reclaim than fade the first touch.
  • You want the open level, the envelope and the risk drawn for you.
  • You are comfortable working on M1 to M15.

It fits you less well if you prefer to front-run the open before rejection shows, or if you trade end-of-day timeframes where the daily open is less relevant to immediate structure.

Pairing with other tools

You may pair Open Price Flip Pulse with VP MACD Intraday Pulse MT4 to add a momentum-divergence filter before taking the reclaim signal, or with Wick Absorption Reversal Pulse MT4 to catch absorption-based reversals away from the open level. Neither pairing changes what Open Price Flip Pulse signals; they add context you can choose to layer.

Installing it

Copy the .ex4 file into the MQL4/Indicators folder inside your terminal's data folder, refresh the Navigator panel in MetaTrader 4, then drag Open Price Flip Pulse onto the chart. Every threshold is editable in the Inputs tab.
